Start from General D.H. Hill Headquarters on Thursday, September 6th and follow the original line of March along the Appalachian Trail. At daylight, on the morning of the 7th, march into Boonsboro following the route of Garland’s Brigade down the mountain being pressed by the “Black Hats”. Arriving just ahead of the Federal army and rejoin the main army in time for the defense of Sharpsburg. |

We will be following the route of Garland’s Brigade down South Mountain, the only unit flags which can be carried will be of those units in Garland’s Brigade present at South Mountain. These units are: 5th North Carolina Troops, 12th North Carolina Troops, 13th North Carolina Troops, 20th North Carolina Troops, and 23rd North Carolina Troops

Some Basic Guidelines for the March
1. Period footwear required.
2. This a campaign style march knapsacks, blanket rolls and shelter halves are encouraged.
3. Wear a proper style Jean Cloth uniform, appropriate for 1862.
4. This is a seven mile march, prepare yourself physically to make the march.
5. Pack only those items you will need. Remember you will be carrying them for seven miles.
6. Carry a full canteen of water.
7. You must be sixteen years of age to make this march.
8. The minimum contribution for the March is $50.00.
