All proceeds from September Storm will be donated for preservation and interpretation. The event is operating on an all volunteer effort, with those working it doing so out of their love of history and their dedication to preservation.

Funds will be split between donations to the Western Maryland Heritage Foundation and the Friends of South Mountain State Battlefield, with the monies being earmarked to purchase interpretive signs at the South Mountain State Battlefield at Fox's Gap.

2004's event, To the Gates of Washington, which commemorated the 140th Anniversary of the Battle of Monocacy, raised over $2000 for the preservation of the Nighthawk Ranger's Flag.

Preservation Marches - A number of preservation marches are planned to lead up to the event:
The 145th Anniversary South Mountain Battlefield Preservation March

Donated by the North State Haberdashery, this 1st National Confederate Flag was hand made by John Pittsenbargar and valued at $350.00. Each marcher is to seek sponsors for the 8 mile march, with the greatest fund raiser getting the flag. All proceeds are donated to the South Mountain State Battlefield, and checks are to be made out to "WMHF" Western Maryland Heritage Foundation and are tax deductable. Minimum donation for march is $50.00, in 1997, the top fundraiser was $750.00, and in 2002, $550.00.

Arriving on Sept 6th to the reenactment site for Sept Storm at 4 pm, troops will be shuttled up to Turner's Gap for drop off, no powder or caps in boxes. Troops will march from Turner's to Fox's Gap and bivouac for the night at the NC South Mountain Monument. Period rations will be distributed, there is nothing like experiencing a night on South Mountain where the 20th & 23rd NC fought hand to hand with the Ohio boys.
