The Chesapeake Volunteer Guard is honored to present the 2008 Bedford Officer School Titled "Then and Now- Running the Brigade"
The Date is set for the March 28-30, 2008, at Old Bedford Village which has around 40 period houses, a school house for classes and a Period Tavern for a Saturday Night Social.
There will be a dual impression (both sides) officers weekend focusing on the 1862 Army Officers Companion and leadership skills. The goal of the weekend is to provide a link between what was done in 1863 and what should be done now in the reenacting hobby.
We have focused on the Brigade level for this school, as it is the main operating piece both during the War and in today's reenacting world. We will detail how a Brigade was run then, and how today the various battalion officers interact with brigade by department. So this is not just for those involved in Brigade Staff, but rather for both Battalion and Brigade, touching on the expectations of both, and the full use of the various departments involved.
This program is not intended to preach at anyone, but rather to work together, as a team, to increase our knowledge and cooperation and to increase of teamwork.
There will be a Saturday night social at a period tavern, and period buildings for each organization to be housed in.
The total fee for the weekend, including the meals and housing would be $35. Any funds left over will be donated to the village as well. For those ladies assisting Laura and the men of the Duty Company, the fee would be just the $12.
Each Military participant will receive a copy of Bill Watson's excellent book- Seize the Day, how to wring the most from your hobby- and a Bulge Call CD.
I would hope to have all on site by 8pm if possible, for a welcome reception in the Tavern, and end the program around noon on Sunday, to allow for travel. It truly is a wonderful period place for such an activity, and is located only about an hour west of Hagerstown Md. I hope you embrace this program, as the chance to work together to learn and build partnerships that will benefit us all, and the boys we serve.
