COMPANY A
Commanded by Captain John Wyman
Welcome to Company A of the Chesapeake Volunteer Guard! We are a like minded group of living historians who enjoy experiencing the life of a soldier engaged during the American Civil War. Primarily based in MD, VA, WV, PA and DE, we gather together several times a year to march shoulder to shoulder and face the hardships and trials of the men who went before us. We are a dual impression unit, meaning we are capable of portraying both Confederate and Union troops depending on the event.
We participate in campaign oriented events and have seen action at Recon events, Fire on the Mountain, Summer of 62 and Shenandoah 62 just to name a few. This year we will have our knapsacks on our backs and our muskets on our shoulders for McDowell, Down the Valley, and September Storm. The events we engage in are normally very unique as some of them take place on the original fields of battle that saw action during the war. In some instances, like Shenandoah 62, we were the first to march on and re-create what happened over 145 years ago. It’s events like these that make them stand apart when compared to others and it’s events like these that Company A strives to attend.
Company A is unique and we are proud to stand apart from other units. Our singing on the march and in camp is what legends are made of and have built a strong sense of esprit de corps among the men. We are well versed in all of the different drill manuals, from Hardee’s revised to McClellan’s Bayonet Exercises and we endeavor to consistently perform at the highest level. We have even had some training as sharpshooters.
If you feel that A Company is a right fit for you, please feel free to contact Capt. John Wyman at winderranger@comcast.net, Lt. Josh Mason at jjmason15@hotmail.com, or 1st Sgt. Bobby Small at rsmall@oceaneering.com.
